Shaun Chown is an artist and visual arts educator. She enjoys working with art fans of all ages, exploring materials, building drawing skills, exploring painting techniques, textiles and ceramics. Her educational background includes B.Ed. University of New Brunswick, DAUS (Fine Art) St. Thomas University and a MA (Art Education) Edinboro University PA. Shaun has mentored high school Fine Art students in portfolio development toward postsecondary Fine Arts Studies and hosted co-op student placements in her classes. The artist /teacher is inspired by the enthusiasm and curiosity of fellow art fans she meets and memories of growing up close to nature along the Bay of Fundy coast.
Shaun enjoys working collaboratively with educators to help students develop ideas and engage with creative materials. The visual arts class is a great opportunity to introduced materials and techniques used by professional artists. In the past I have been the educator working with visiting artists in who have introduced students to explorations of self image and 2D and 3D media, through drawing, painting, and clay sculpture.
I have received grants for "Twentieth Century Learning Skills" and designed arts-based projects that have worked across curricula meeting outcomes that have focused on language arts, numeracy, social studies, and science. I have been a visiting artist working with High School classes introducing classes to textile materials and the craft of needle felting, funded by the New Horizons Program through the AX -Arts and Culture Centre in Sussex. I am comfortable working with groups of students from the primary to senior levels and would look forward to collaborating a project to meet the needs of a school's art program.
