Bio
I am a community-minded practicing poet. I have worked extensively with environmental and social justice stakeholders in various creative collaborations across Canada for several years. Since moving to New Brunswick in 2021, I helped co-found the Fundy Bay Writers (FBW) a diverse and energetic community of people who value the application of words and language with a recently published Eco-Anthology. I have co-created and successfully delivered a Writing Program in several New Brunswick locations in the last year to women in recovery. I have written and performed poetry as well as story at various venues and literary festivals throughout my adult life.
Residency Project
In a facilitated social and learning environment, students will be supported to envision, construct and develop meaning through the creative practice of writing and storytelling. Activities will cultivate an explorative space to connect with qualities of character like creativity, critical thinking, social values, curiosity and skillful problem-solving. Writing practices offered include journaling techniques, text rendering activities, creative non-fiction, postcard lit, rant writing, spoken word, and eco poetry. In addition to writing, group activities will include the discussion of relevant and inspirational literature encouraging learners to examine constructively and think creatively through a literary lens. The project would be delivered as a series that would build from one session to the next while exploring various methods of presentation for the written word.
Teaching Experience
I have been teaching creative writing for more than twenty years and have witnessed firsthand the power of creative expression to amplify Voice for the less heard in any given community. It has been my experience that when taught in a safe yet playful educational environment, creative writing will effectively cultivate and encourage mutual sharing, social connection and support amongst peers.
