Bio
Mel Beaulieu (they/them) is a member of Metepenagiag First Nation, living in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
Mel blends traditional craftsmanship with ever developing technology - crafting intricate beadwork and melding it with the cutting-edge world of 3D printing, and the immersive landscapes of augmented reality. The result is work that serves as a testament to the fluidity of gender and identity, the resilience of tradition, and the endless possibilities that arise when innovation and culture converge.
Mel's creativity is a celebration of connection to the natural world, the profound ties of family, and the links we are between past and future.
Residency Project
I can teach beaded keychains, pins, earrings, necklaces depending on the age group and the amount of time allotted for the workshop. (Samples of past bead workshops attached)
I can also teach augmented reality art programing for high school students if computers are available to each student. With A.R. we can take art students have created and move it into a digital space. This tech is growing so quickly right now and is a great jump off point into other forms of 3D animation and design. (I included a QR code in my samples that will show one of my past AR works)
Teaching Experience
I have experience teaching young adults and high school students. I’ve facilitated several beadwork workshops – both virtual and in person and have taught a cohort of 10 students to use Spark Studio (Augmented reality software) and create their own effects through zoom.
