BIO
Nicole Manuel grew up just outside of Toronto, Ontario. She began teaching art to young children at the age of 17 at a private children's art studio where Nicole discovered her love of teaching. After graduating from Sheridan College with a diploma in Craft and Design, she moved to Nova Scotia to continue her education at NSCAD University where she received her degree in Craft and Design with a major in Textiles. Nicole has a passion for teaching children new and exciting techniques and enjoys allowing them to experiment and learn. She began teaching the children's art program at NSCAD University and then opened her own children's art studio, Creative Minds Studio, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Nicole has brought together her passion of art and teaching, and thrives in a classroom setting. Her many projects bring out children's confidence and self-esteem.
RESIDENCY PROJECT
Nicole encourages both group and individual projects in the classroom. She enjoys working with a teacher’s curriculum to create the perfect project for the classroom. She would currently love to collaborate with a school to create something as a community/class. Nicole enjoys teaching children new techniques. She encourages them to experiment and learn through art.
Past projects have included large scale canvases as a class, felting landscapes and creatures, papermaking, book binding, oil pastels, acrylic painting, mark-making, mixed media/college, watercolour painting.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Nicole Manuel has taught at a private children's art studio from the time she was 17. She then taught children's art classes at NSCAD University. During her time in Nova Scotia, Nicole was an artist though the P.A.I.N.T.S program, (professional artists in the schools), where she ran more than 100 workshops in many schools across the province. Nicole was also a substitute art teacher at a private school, Armbrea Academy, in Halifax, NS. She opened a children's art studio of her own, Creative Minds Studio for young artists. After moving to New Brunswick in 2014, Nicole began teaching workshops through the Andrew & Laura McCain Gallery in Florenceville, NB. She then began teaching children's art classes at the local community center, AYR Motor Center, in Woodstock, NB.
Nicole is currently volunteering in her children's classrooms teaching art.
