Photograph

Kcihpolakon (eagle)

by: Nate Gaffney

This photograph was taken in Mahone Bay, NS in the morning in early Spring. The juvenile eagle in the photo lept from a branch and stared at me with the expression captured in the photograph. If it weren't for being in the right place at the right time, I wouldn't have captured this eagle or the light that fell onto its face, revealing that fierce look.

Small nate gaffney Nate Gaffney

Nate began his career as a fashion photographer before falling in love with filmmaking. Nate’s desire to be a storyteller stems from a desire to preserve and explore his culture. His most recent documentary is called My Name is Wolastoq, a film about identity and efforts to reclaim the original Indigenous name of the Wolastoq (Saint John) River. The film was selected to be screened at The Atlantic Film Festival (FIN). He has made documentaries for The Government of New Brunswick and Ulnooweg Education, among others. Nate currently resides in Fredericton, NB, and works for Wabanaki Media, a company he co-founded with his business partner.
