Part of a 2023 series of paintings titled "Pitch Assembling" , this painting was exhibited in a solo exhibition at Paul Petro Contemporary Art, Toronto in September 2023. The series of small-scale paintings is based on research into early twentieth-century Lebanese immigrants to New Brunswick who were pack peddlers, or rural door-to-door salespeople. Pack peddling was a common employment amongst Lebanese immigrants in the Maritimes, which upon research into my family history, included my great-grandfather. The paintings use the image of the road as an abstract device to create an imagined visual account of a peddler's journey and represent the ambiguous terrain navigated by these small-scale entrepreneurs. The roads, or communication routes, are stand-ins for the methodology of how ideas and objects are either consumed or rejected within transactional realities. The paintings have formal parallels with the work of modern Lebanese abstract artists including Etel Adnan, Huguette Caland, Saloua Raouda Choucair, and Saliba Douaihy. 

The title "Pitch Assembling" refers to the early Canadian modernist, Bertram Brooker's painting, "Sounds Assembling" (1928) which imagined sound in visual form and is considered one of the first abstract paintings created in Canada. This type of sonic visualization was popular in the early 20th century and was typically mystical in nature. The works in “Pitch Assembling” imagine the pragmatic sounds of a Lebanese peddler pitching their wares, positioning abstraction as a social, cultural and economic reality rather than a romantic or spiritual expression.
