Bio
Caitlin (she/her) is an ADHD printmaker working in Moncton, New Brunswick; the traditional unceded territory of the Wolastoqiyik and Mi’Kmaq Peoples. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Mount Allison University and moved to Moncton to become a member of Atelier Imago printmaking studio in 2009. In 2018, Caitlin established Maplewood Studio, from which she teaches art lessons, prepares her “Artventures” art and eco-tourism day trips, and hosts events. In 2022, she and her partner Nat Cann repurposed a former church into studio space to house Maplewood Studio and work on their creative practices.
Residency Project
Printmaking is the fine art medium of multiple identical images (a group of which is known as an edition), often using unique varieties of stamps or stencils. I am experienced in many printmaking techniques, allowing me the flexibility to collaborate with teachers and create a project that best suits the needs of their students and curriculum. Project ideas vary from creating large patterns with lego printing, to understanding negative space with linocut, to combining art and chemistry with kitchen lithography.
The editions created in printmaking makes this an ideal medium for classes interested in making artwork to use for fundraising; students can keep a piece of their work (in the form of a card, t-shirt, poster, or traditional print) and donate the additional pieces to help raise funds for a cause relevant to the theme of their project. Printmaking is also an ideal medium for collaborative, large scale, or interactive pieces.
Students who complete this project will learn about printmaking, image planning, and the elements of art. This is an ideal opportunity for a teacher to acquire printmaking supplies for their school, including a small printing press. This high reward artmaking medium is sure to be enjoyed by each classroom.
Teaching Experience
Caitlin has been teaching art lessons in drawing, painting, printmaking, and mixed media from Maplewood Studio since 2018. She has mentored two professional artists in printmaking at Atelier Imago with Creation Grant Funding from ArtsNB. She has taught dozens of workshops and interactive demonstrations (in both French and English) at several locations throughout the Maritimes, including Atelier d’Estampe Imago, the Beaverbrook Gallery, and the Moncton Boys and Girls Club. In 2022, Caitlin taught in Estey Arts’ Art After School Program. She has participated in the Artists in Schools program in 2023 and 2024.
