Bio
A native of Moncton, Chantal Cadieux founded Les Productions DansEncorps in Moncton, the first Francophone dance company in New Brunswick. At the same time, she developed the École DansEncorps, which was born of a community need. From the outset, she has been the artistic director of both organizations, and in 2005 added “l'atlantique dance FESTIVAL danse atlantique”. Her goal: to make dance accessible to a greater number of people and demystify this art form, which was largely unknown to the public in Acadie. In November 2010, she received the Lieutenant-Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts in New Brunswick. In November 2019, she is the recipient of the Tribute Award for the 2020 edition of the Éloizes from the AAAPNB.
Residency Project
I'd like to propose an artistic residency based on my new (dance) piece for Compagnie DansEncorps, “Le corps en 4 saisons”, which explores how the body and emotions evolve with the seasons - summer, autumn, winter, spring. This project offers students a unique opportunity to reflect on the influence of our environment on our emotions and physical well-being, while discovering dance and movement as tools of expression.
Through this residency, I propose to explore these seasonal changes through movement and dance. Students will participate in a series of creative exercises that allows them to pause mentally, focus on the body and unleash their authentic creativity. This process encourages an intuitive exploration of emotions in relation to the environment, allowing students to discover their own way of expressing themselves through movement.
During this residency, I will guide students through a series of creative movement exercises. These exercises enable us to:
- Give the mind a break: put thoughts aside to focus on the body and the present moment.
- Express yourself through dance and movement: each student can explore his or her emotions and relationship with the environment through intuitive, creative movement. Free, spontaneous practice encourages students to discover their own way of moving.
- Strengthen group cohesion: through collective exercises, students will be encouraged to connect and collaborate with their peers in a caring environment.
Pedagogical benefits:
- Emotional and physical development: students learn to better understand and express their emotions through their bodies.
- Creativity and well-being: these workshops offer a space for movement, relaxation and creativity, contributing to the overall well-being of the students.
Teaching Experience
Chantal Cadieux's first desire was always to dance and choreograph, but teaching soon became a must. Chantal Cadieux has trained several generations of dancers and theater performers, enabling them to pursue their passion for the performing arts. Also a professor at the Université de Moncton's School of Kinesiology, her expertise has extended to teacher training in dance-based physical education since 1995. She has been a senior teacher at DansEncorps for over 40 years, specializing in classical and contemporary dance.
