Bio

Kylie Fox is a Canadian singer songwriter, fusing indie-folk storytelling with vintage elements of jazz and alternative rock. With influences like Joni Mitchell, Brandi Carlile and Sharon Van Etten, her music is ethereal, lush and real. Currently based in Fredericton, NB, Fox exudes fun and love for her art and for storytelling, which is evident on “Confetti” (April 2023), the lead single from her second studio album.

Her debut Green (2020) led Fox to tour Canada extensively and share stages alongside names like Bahamas, The Strumbellas and Joel Plaskett. With the support of Canada Council, she is currently developing her second studio album “Sequoia” with producer Daniel Ledwell (Jenn Grant, The Good Lovelies, Fortunate Ones).

Residency Project

Songwriting

My songwriting workshop focuses on creativity and self-expression in writing music. It begins by covering song structure, functions of the parts of songs, rhyme and meter. Once instruction is given on the basic foundations of a song, multiple, time sensitive prompts (images, sounds, videos) are given to generate ideas impulsively on sticky notes, which get placed on a designated wall space. After five prompts have been written about, each student will choose another, anonymous sticky note to develop a song with. I have a great songwriting template where they would put the instruction on song structure in practice. This strategy gives them an opportunity to write a song without thinking too hard about an idea themselves, even though they have already generated five ideas using observation and intuition. Afterwards, song sharing is encouraged, and if time permits, we can write a song as a class. I will have my guitar to accompany the group.

Teaching Experience

I was a supply teacher for three years in ASDS and ADSW. I am currently a voice teacher, and I was the music director at the Theatre New Brunswick Theatre School for two terms. I also run the Fredericton Girls Rock Camps that take place at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre. I love kids, especially middle school-age groups!
