Hanwell Park Academy Mural - Ascension

by: Laura Forrester

In 2023-2024, "Hanwell Park Academy Mural - Ascension" by Laura Forrester was commissioned by the Province of New Brunswick for Hanwell Park Academy as part of New Brunswick's Public Art Policy.

"Hanwell Park Academy Mural - Ascension" spans the cafeteria learning stairs. From the bottom of the stairs to the top, the mural tells the stories of students from kindergarten to grade 8 learning, playing and growing together. Imagery features educational motifs such as books and desks, as well as students in their social setting. It also features natural elements that are found in the local community, such as Garden Creek Falls.

The artist aimed to capture the full student experience and provide a space where students could work, study, and socialize while seeing themselves and their experience reflected. Bright colours were used to inspire creativity and contentment and reflect diversity and inclusion.
