The Deal

by: Theresa MacKnight

In recent years, I find that world events push me more and more toward expressions of universal human struggle. My image sources continue to be based on real local people, animals and locations in invented circumstances which are simultaneously familiar and ambiguous. This led to investigations and images collected with a trail camera which produce photographically rough images which somehow allowed an opening for imagination and painterly invention.

“The Deal” includes several deer and two humans in a friend’s orchard. I have presented these entities, both male and female, as equals in the space, meaning that both share the same level of belonging in this environment.
